Untranslated
9th - 14th July 2025

Perhaps you’ve felt this too — the moment you try to articulate pain, only to find others listening not for what you say, but for how softly you say it, how neatly it’s explained…
Untranslated is an exhibition dedicated to the unspoken — the experiences that are not articulated yet deeply exist.

Bringing together women artists from diverse cultural contexts, Untranslated interrogates who has the power to define the language of art. Through painting, video, performance, and repair-based practices, the exhibition addresses themes of body shame, medical violence, emotional labor, and gendered expectations.

The curatorial inspiration draws from feminist scholar Sara Ahmed, who reminds us, “To complain is to have a record of what is out of the regulations.” In a world that demands our pain be translated into diagnoses, testimonies, or proof to be believed, the choice to remain illegible becomes a radical gesture.

What if the language is not designed for you? What if you can only be heard when your voice is soft, and your anger becomes sadness? — Then what is the meaning of being heard?

When everything becomes visible and explained, female artists explore their personal languages. Through fragments, delays, and ambiguities, their new languages become a visual celebration. It is a strategy instead of escape: if language is not designed for you, the art of untranslated becomes an act of resistance.
